The railway school was originally scheduled to be opened in the former site of the Engineering Section of the Beiyang Railway Branch of Shanhaiguan.
However, as the semester approaches, the house of the engineering department cannot be vacated for maintenance. In order to gain time, the Railway Bureau and Tianjin Beiyang West School (the predecessor of Beiyang University) agreed to temporarily borrow the school building for classes, and at the same time, they could borrow teachers, books and instruments from Beiyang West School.
Shortly after the start of school, students from the two schools clashed, which attracted the attention of Hu Kun, the minister in charge of the internal and external railways of Shanhaiguan. When Hu inspected the railways inside and outside Shanhaiguan, he ordered the railway school to move to Shanhaiguan as originally planned. 1897165438+1October 22nd, the school moved to Shanhaiguan. March 1900, 17, students of the first class 1 class 2 of Shanhaiguan Beiyang Railway Institute graduated.
