Southeast University, referred to as Dongda for short, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is also one of the first national key universities in world-class university construction (Class A), 985 Project and 2 1 1 Project.

Southeast University 1902 was founded in Sanjiang Normal School, and has experienced important development periods such as Liangjiang Normal University, Nanjing Higher Normal University, National Southeast University and National Central University.

During the period of 1952, the departments of colleges and universities in China were adjusted and the departments of arts and sciences moved out. The former National Central University School of Engineering was merged into Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Jinling University, and Nanjing Institute of Technology was established in the original site of the National Central University.

Southeast University currently has 35 departments, 87 undergraduate majors, 37 first-level discipline authorization points for doctoral degrees and 49 first-level discipline authorization points for master's degrees. The school has four campuses, namely Sipailou, Jiulong Lake and Dingjiaqiao, covering an area of 5,888 mu, including 3,752.35 mu of Jiulong Lake Campus, with a total construction area of about 789,700 square meters. The school library covers an area of 66,900 square meters, with 4.6 million books and materials, and 49 (233 secondary databases) accessed to the database retrieval platform/kloc-0. The school also has Wuxi Campus and Suzhou Campus.

Southeast University is a comprehensive research university with engineering as its main feature, covering philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, art, history and other disciplines. 12 discipline was selected into the national list of "double first-class" construction disciplines, and five disciplines got A+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation, ranking eighth in the country.
