Tsinghua University's predecessor, Tsinghua Academy, was founded in 19 1 1. It was named after Shui Mu Tsinghua University. It was a preparatory school for studying in the United States founded by the Qing government, and the founding funds came from 1908, when the United States returned part of boxer indemnity.
