Liaoning Technical University is not a national key university, but an ordinary university.

Liaoning University of Engineering Science was founded in 1949, formerly known as Fuxin Mining Institute. In the early 1960s, it became the only coal institution of higher learning in Northeast China, one of the two national key universities directly under the former Ministry of Coal Industry, and was known as the "Whampoa Military Academy" in the coal industry.

The school was jointly established by the Liaoning Provincial Government and the Emergency Management Department, and has been selected as one of the universities implementing the National College Students' Innovation Experimental Plan, the national universities with typical experience in graduate employment, the universities with excellent engineer education and training programs, the universities with scholarships for overseas students from China government, the universities with key infrastructure projects in central and western universities, and the first batch of demonstration universities in China to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education.

On the eve of the founding of New China, in order to resume production, develop economy and support the liberation of China, Fuxin Higher Engineering Vocational School, Fushun Higher Engineering Vocational School, Hegang Higher Engineering Vocational School, Jixi Coal Mine Industrial School and Northeast Coal Mine Workers' Accelerated School were established with the approval of the Northeast People's Government.

From 65438 to 0958, on the basis of these schools, Fuxin Coal Mine College, Fushun Coal Mine College, Jixi Mining College and Liaoning Coal Mine Normal College were established respectively.

In the early 1960s, universities were restructured and four universities merged. The school site was chosen in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, and it was named Fuxin Coal College, becoming the only coal college in Northeast China. 1978 The school was renamed Fuxin Mining Institute.
