Huvisqulai is located in south-central Finland, next to a small lake not far from the north of Lake Paiyannai. The population is 130800 (20 10). Railway hub. Paper and pulp industry center, with match factory, margarine factory, machinery factory and arsenal. There is an airport. It is a cultural and educational center with a long history. There are the First Teachers' College (founded in 1863 and renamed Finland Normal University after 1966), the First Finnish Language School (founded in 1858) and the First Finnish Girls' School (founded in 1864). There is a black granite quarry nearby.
