Beijing Sport University, referred to as Beiti for short, is one of the first batch of national key institutions identified by the State Council after the founding of New China. It is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction institution, and has entered the "discipline innovation and intelligence introduction program for colleges and universities", and is affiliated to the State Sports General Administration.

In 2007, the first-level discipline of school physical education was rated as a national key discipline, ranking first in the three national-level discipline evaluations organized by the Ministry of Education. It has been rated as a six-star university for many years in the national university rankings.
