The school, formerly known as Inner Mongolia Teachers College, was established in Ulanhot, the then capital, 1952. 1In August, 953, Inner Mongolia Teachers College was formed by the merger of Zhangjiakou Teachers College and Suiyuan Teachers College. 1982, the school was renamed "Inner Mongolia Normal University" and was identified as a key university in the autonomous region. In July 2000, Inner Mongolia Institute of Education merged.
