In universities I know, the most important task is to engage in scientific research. As for class, the task is not that heavy. Generally, a teacher has about 2-4 classes a year at a normal level, that is, 1-2 classes per semester, that is, only 1-2 classes per week, and there are teaching assistants in the course, and there is almost no need to change homework. Therefore, in the eyes of many people in society, university teachers are very relaxed.
University teachers will focus on their own scientific research projects when they are not in class, but their expressions are different. Teachers of science and engineering, medicine and agriculture may spend more time focusing on their own experimental projects, or doing experiments in the laboratory, guiding students to carry out scientific research, reading literature, writing their own papers, applying for scientific research projects, or on the way to field research and undertaking outsourcing projects; Teachers of humanities and social sciences may study, write materials, write applications, or undertake outsourcing projects, give lectures, give lectures and publish books in various social institutions.
Although university teachers have more freedom, what they do most of the time is also related to their personal interests. Teachers who like to attend classes will spend more time preparing lessons, teaching and contacting students, while students who don't like to attend classes will focus on their own scientific research, or some teachers will focus on their families after a certain age, so it is more difficult for teachers to see them at school. Many university teachers are busy teaching, taking students, applying for projects, doing projects and writing articles. Some teachers also need to participate in some public affairs, such as enrollment publicity, holding academic conferences, serving colleges and so on.
