Xi Jiaotong University is a key university directly under the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor was Nanyang Public School, which was founded in Shanghai, 1896. 192 1 renamed jiaotong university. 1956 the State Council decided to move jiaotong university to Xi' an. 1959 was named Xi jiaotong university and listed as a national key university. Xi Jiaotong University is one of the first seven universities to enter the national "2 1 1 Project", and has been designated by the state as 1999 to build a world-renowned high-level university. In April 2000, the State Council decided to merge xi 'an Medical University, which has been under the Ministry of Health for more than 60 years, and Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics, which has been under the People's Bank of China for more than 40 years, into Xi 'an Jiaotong University.
