In 2002, the former Yiyang Normal College and Hunan Urban Construction College merged and upgraded, and changed its name to Yi Civil Engineering College. Then the college began to recruit undergraduates, and now it is two universities.

Yiyang Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering has a profound school-running accumulation and a long tradition, which embodies distinctive school-running characteristics. The college has a strong faculty and a reasonable team structure. The college has six undergraduate majors, including civil engineering, engineering cost, urban underground space engineering, traffic engineering, water conservancy and hydropower engineering and safety engineering, with 3,533 full-time students.
