Jinghua Times: How many universities have you applied for?
Tan: I applied to seventeen or eighteen universities and participated in seven or eight interviews. Prepare all kinds of documents when applying for school, and often stay up until the early hours of the morning.
Jinghua Times: Did you encounter any setbacks in the application process?
Tan Qiu Yun: I applied to Harvard, but I was not accepted. In order to submit the application materials before the deadline, I stayed up late to catch up with the paperwork for almost a month, and I have been praying for admission ever since. But my father said, "every successful person will have at least one major setback, and early frustration is a very valuable experience for life." After this time, I realized that applying for a prestigious school is not to prove myself to anyone, but to have this experience.
Jinghua Times: What did this experience bring you?
Tan Qiu Yun: I think the application process encourages me to open my world and let me find my real interest. Applying for a prestigious school also taught me to choose and arrange my life in a balanced way. I feel that I have gained more than one admission notice.
Jinghua Times: What advice do you have for students applying for studying abroad?
Tan: First of all, standardized exams must be prepared as soon as possible. So I have more time to do what I want to do and write application documents. For example, during the summer vacation of 20 1 1, I took part in PEER's charity activities and went to Thailand to participate in the "APEC Youth Science Festival", which was very helpful for my subsequent application.
Secondly, in the process of document preparation and interview, we must insist on "being yourself" and find out our real enthusiasm and interest. I found that students with good application results all have one thing in common: they have done what they love to the extreme. Don't think that what you love is too simple and insignificant. If you make the bottle cap collection invincible, it is also a major feature of you.
Jinghua Times: What advantages do you think you have when you are admitted to eight famous universities in the United States?
Tan: My advantage lies in my love of tossing. He joined the Beijing International Children's Choir in primary school and was elected president of the student union in high school. On the summer vacation of 20 1 1, I participated in the summer camp taught by my peers. Besides, I also like traveling and playing the piano. My mother is studying in France. When I was very young, she told me: "The meaning of life is to experience the most, not the best." So I will try to expand the width of my life, open my eyes to see the world and embrace different people and things with open arms. These experiences and specialties not only enriched my life, but also attracted the attention of famous schools.
Jinghua Times: You have faced many choices. How do you make the right decision?
Tan: Choice is very important. When faced with major choices, I turned into a "form control" and listed the pros and cons of each choice in detail. In fact, I'm not good at making decisions, and I try to be rational, so I can make "the best decision at the moment" by choosing the list grid.
Jinghua Times: What do you think of your future career?
Tan: I am very interested in the media industry and hope to become a reporter. Before, I went to Thailand to attend the APEC Youth Science Festival and interviewed a Japanese astronaut from NASA. I enjoy the process of entering other people's lives, and I also enjoy the process of arousing social attention to fairness and justice.
