Xi 'an International Studies University was founded in 1952. Its predecessor was 195 1 Northwest Russian College, which was formed by the merger of Russian Department of Northwest University, Russian Department of Lanzhou University and Russian Class of Northwest Bureau Party School. 1952, the Russian class of China Northwest Bureau Party School was merged into Northwest Russian College, and the school began to recruit students; 1958 changed its name to Xi 'an International Studies University.

The four campuses of Chang 'an, Yanta, Zhenhua and Yahe cover a total area of 1.593 mu, 18 departments and 58 undergraduate majors.
