Describe the relations and differences among PDM, PLM and ERP.
PDM is a product data management system. Simply put, it mainly manages the design, process, technical data and electronic drawings of products, so as to control the safety and appreciation of design drawings, manage and generate BOM of products, but its core is mainly the application related to drawing management. At present, the graphic document of CAXA is a very practical PDM management software.

PLM is product life cycle management, not a software, but a set of solutions and an idea. It is an organic combination of different software. From product design and development, to technology, to product data management, to manufacturing, etc. And continue to extend it in the future until the product is scrapped. So it doesn't have a standard concept and application mode. Different enterprises have different needs, and different suppliers also have different software and application solutions. There are Dassault (high-end), PTC and Siemens in foreign countries, but one set is very expensive, ranging from several million to tens of millions, which is normal and suitable for large high-end enterprises, but not for ordinary small and medium-sized enterprises.

At present, only CAXA (Beijing Digital Dafang Technology Co., Ltd.) can provide complete PLM solutions and products in China, and there are several other manufacturers, such as Mu Kai and Axetil. But all of them are gone, only a few products can be produced, which is too simple to form a systematic solution to meet the overall needs of enterprises.

ERP, that is, enterprise resource management, has been developed for many years and is relatively mature, which is mainly reflected in the management of people, finance, production, supply and sales of enterprises. Different from PDM and PLM, it can be said that the two systems have little relationship. However, they are also related. For example, the product BOM in ERP comes from PDM, so PDM/PLM is the upstream data source of ERP. If the enterprise does not go to PDM/PLM, the BOM of ERP products can only be entered manually, which is very easy to make mistakes and troubles, not to mention the heavy workload. For different types of enterprises, ERP and PLM have different needs, and the manufacturing industry may give priority to PLM. Because products and technology are the lifeline of enterprise's survival and development. Of course, ERP is also needed.
