The international standard "Testing method of flax fiber composition for textile" (ISO 5773:2023) led by Donghua University was officially released and implemented in official website.

This standard is the first ISO international standard dominated by China in the field of natural cellulose fiber in recent ten years. Led by Li Weidong, a professor-level senior engineer from Textile College of Donghua University and executive deputy director of Textile Testing Center of Donghua University, it helps to enhance China's right to speak in the field of textile international standards.

Linen fiber is the oldest textile fiber in the world. China is the country that imports and processes flax fiber the most, with an annual import of 1.6-0.2 million tons, accounting for about two-thirds of the raw materials of flax fiber in the world. With the high-quality development of flax fiber industry, the inconsistency of flax fiber testing standards at home and abroad has seriously affected the quality control of flax fiber in production and international trade, and has become a "bottleneck" problem restricting the development of flax industry.

The ISO international standard "Testing Method of Textile Flax Fiber Composition" officially released this time is a method standard independently developed by China. The standard stipulates the quantitative analysis methods of chemical components such as cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin and fatty wax in flax fiber, which provides an effective detection method for the quality control of flax fiber in all production links of spinning. This standard fills the gaps in relevant testing methods and standards at home and abroad, provides an international unified standard for testing the content of flax fiber components, provides an important evaluation means and basis for its raw material analysis and textile processing quality control, and is of great significance for standardizing flax fiber trade in the international market and guiding enterprises' raw material procurement and production and processing.

Li Weidong of Textile Institute first put forward the formulation of ISO 5773:2023 international standard on 20 19. The members of the working group include 44 experts from 14 countries around the world, involving flax fiber production and processing enterprises, distributors, R&D, production units and scientific research institutes. The project lasted for four years, investigated more than 200 flax fiber-related enterprises around the world, and after hundreds of scientific experiments, organized three international meetings of ISO working group and several rounds of strict technical review organized by ISO technical committee. The draft standard was recognized by experts from various countries and finally adopted by the International Standardization Committee at the end of April this year.

China's international standards in the textile field will help to improve the international standard system in the textile field, strengthen China's leading role in the formulation of international standards in the textile field, and expand China's influence in international standardization organizations.

It is reported that the Textile Testing Center of Donghua University is the convener of the Natural Cellulose Fiber Working Group of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC38/SC23/WG2), the vice chairman of the National Textile Standardization Technical Committee, and the National Textile Standardization Technical Committee and its basic branch "Textile Standards Verification Laboratory". In the past three years, a total of 2 standards 1 have been formulated, including ISO international standard 1, 9 national standards, local standards1,and group standards 15, and 15 has been published. Won the second prize of provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological progress and the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" textile standardization outstanding contribution award; It provides strong technical support for the high-quality development of textile science and engineering.
