South-Central University for Nationalities is a comprehensive general institution of higher learning directly under the central government, which is subordinate to the State Ethnic Affairs Commission. The school, formerly known as South-Central University for Nationalities, was founded in 195 1 and renamed South-Central University for Nationalities in March 2002. The University straddles Minzu Avenue and is located in the hinterland of Wuhan "Optical Valley". South Lake in the west of the school and Xiongchu Avenue in the north. Wuhan textile University is in the east, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law is in the south, and Huazhong Agricultural University is opposite the South Lake.
The school covers an area of 1.554 mu, with a building area of more than 730,000 square meters and a collection of more than 2.8 million books. It has the first university ethnology museum in China.
In 200 1 year, the school achieved excellent results in the random level evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education; In May 2005, the school was awarded the honorary title of "National Model Collective of National Unity and Progress" by the State Council. In 2006, the school was once again rated as excellent in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education.
