Qingdao University of Science and Technology, formerly known as Qingdao Institute of Chemical Technology, is a university directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. Its predecessor was Shenyang Light Industry Higher Vocational School, which was founded in September 1950. Moved to Qingdao in August, 1956, renamed Qingdao Rubber Industry School. Approved by Shandong Provincial People's Government 1984, it was formally established as Shandong Institute of Chemical Technology and renamed with the approval of the Ministry of Education.

1998 transferred to the leadership of Shandong province, and 200 1 merged with Qingdao Arts and Crafts School of Shandong Province. In March 2002, it was renamed Qingdao University of Science and Technology with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
