Yu Fang and Li Dan returned to China on 1927 and 1928 respectively. At that time, civil war, famine and unemployment were frequent, and they were looking forward to doing something for this difficult land. The desire to dedicate Les Miserables, which has been shocking their hearts, to countless China compatriots who still live in Les Miserables has once again narrowed the distance between them, and they got married on 1929. In the same year, the first edition of Les Miserables, translated by Li Dan and Yu Fang, came out with the title of Poor People, which was included in the first episode of Universal Library in the Commercial Press, and was published in nine volumes.

The Chinese version of Les Miserables, which was painstakingly translated by two old people, was finally published by People's Literature Publishing House in 1984, and has been popular all over the country ever since. However, the "piracy" of this book soon became rampant. From 1995 to 200 1, eight different versions were found, all of which were pirated or copied from Li Yu's works. Li Fangming, the son of Li Dan and Yu Fang, has been devoted to protecting the translated version of Les Miserables and cracking down on piracy since his retirement.
