Liang Shuangguan's granddaughter Li Chuanting explores the entertainment circle.

Liang Shuangguan, the originator of children's programs, is 84 years old and will return to Taiwan Province next month to publish his third book describing the entertainment circle. His daughter Shangguan Mingzhu recently returned to Taiwan with her daughter Tiffany, who is 15 years old, and invited her friend Ben Lee to take her into the recording studio to record songs. Tiffany, who can sing and dance and host, generously said, "Any form of performance is not excluded. 」

Tiffany is very lively. She can speak Chinese, English and Spanish. She won numerous dance awards at a young age. Only three months after learning ballroom dancing, she performed on stage and won the prize. Yesterday, she got together with Ben Lee's family. Ben Lee's two daughters refused to come down and had a good time. Mother Shangguan Mingzhu said: "She has grandpa's acting skills and acted in a stage play. Some games are like American Idol. She can't register (she must be 16 years old), but she will definitely try. /kloc-After 0/8 years old, she will be independent. 」

Ben Lee thinks that Tiffany should finish her studies first, and the road to acting is difficult. Talent is important, but she must find the right direction. When her studies come to an end and she wants to go back to Taiwan Province to take part in the singing competition, she can arrange registration for her.

Mr. Liang Shuangguan, an overseas Chinese living in the United States

In the early 1960s, when the TV in Taiwan Province Province of Bao Dao was still in black and white, the children's program "Children's World" of Taiwan TV Company every Saturday afternoon was a household name at that time. In particular, the host "Uncle Liang" Liang Shuangguan, bald and paunchy, skipped out with the drums and children's laughter, followed by a song "Liang-Ge Xiao" with lines of "Award" and "Encouragement", which left a very deep impression on the audience. At that time, the live broadcast station of "Children's World" once caused a grand occasion of hard-to-find tickets, which also made Liang Shuangguan popular. At that time, he was not only the live director of the blockbuster program "Star Club", but also the director of the American Academy Awards, Rob Wise, and participated in the performances of many films.

Later, the good life in Liang Shuangguan was not long, the film industry was depressed, and the film pay was often ruined for various reasons. Coupled with his two marital setbacks, five children have a lot of expenses, and he himself has heart disease. After months of deliberation, in desperation, he immigrated to the United States with his family in the early 1980s. After Liang Shuangguan came to America, he left his hometown, especially for performers who love clapping. From then on, he stepped off the stage to face the life of new immigrants. This sudden change from gorgeous to plain is really quite lonely and depressing. However, he did not complain behind closed doors and lament his incompetence. But experienced the practice of being an editor, running a farm, being a chef and running a drama club. His immigrant life in the United States is full of dangerous and interesting things, but he still struggles on the road of life without losing his childlike innocence.

At the beginning, Shangguan Liang immigrated to America with five children. These children are Shangguan Zhangzhu, Shangguan Mingzhu, Shangguan Mingzhu, Shangguan Marbles and Shangguan Zhuguang. At that time, he was between the ages of seventeen and eighteen and nine. After coming to the United States to remarry, she added her son Shangguan Longzhu.

Mr. Liang Shuangguan's trip to America

Overseas Chinese Business Daily is published once a month. Liang Shuanguan cut and paste articles in Chinese newspapers according to his past experience in running magazines. It only took two or three days to finish. He spent the rest of his time growing Asian vegetables and preparing to ship them to China City in San Francisco for sale. At this point, the family finally settled down temporarily.

Mr. Liang Shuangguan bought six acres of farmland in Peony City and set up his own signboard "Bandung Farm". On this farm, he arranged to plant Chinese cabbage with yellow seedlings, white radish and cucumber. He divided the land into more than ten vegetable gardens. From a distance, he not only brushed them all together, but also had various colors, which were really beautiful. Because his wife has to go to work and his children have reached school age, Mr. Liang Shuangguan always wears Dai Yue's works. Every day at dawn, he washes and packs more than 50 kilograms of vegetables, and then drives to San Francisco Chinatown. It takes about 4 hours to go back and forth, but he is still happy to see the ever-changing vegetable fields, but he still often laments that it is not easy to survive in a foreign country. I didn't expect more trouble waiting for him. Eight years after Liang Shuangguan bought "Bandung", vegetables were harvested, but weeds grew wildly. He has seen American farmers cultivate by machinery and weed and fertilize by plane, but he has no capital in this field. One day, he looked at a "bitter fleabane bitter fleabane" weed and thought: Why not learn from the fire attack in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms? This may save both labor and time. After making up his mind, he adopted the method of burning grass while watering, so that more than half of the weeds around him were finally removed. At noon that day, he went back to his home to rest after "taking chestnuts from the fire". In the dim light, I heard someone shouting outside: "Fire!" He quickly looked out of the window, and flames were rolling outside. At this time, 1 1 the fire truck came. After two hours of fighting, the flame was put out. Liang Shuangguan was also put in the dock. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and he was unconscious in the fire. Out of sympathy, the yellow-skinned, black-eyed judge of the U.S. justice department gave a lighter punishment of $578 to settle the matter.

After leaving the "Bandung Farm", Liang Shuangguan really became an idle person who learned nothing at this time. The only thing he could do was to do odd jobs in nearby restaurants. So he went to the "Lotus Garden Hotel" where his wife served as a waiter to help cook, on condition that meals were provided for two months free, and the starting salary was determined according to the results. One day, the hotel manager and his wife were stunned by the sound of Liang Shuangguan cutting vegetables. It turns out that his chopping rhythm is like a drum on the civil and military field of drama, which is fast and slow, ups and downs and orderly. As soon as you listen, you will know that he is a "skilled" and "hidden" chef. So, less than a month and a half later, he officially became a formal "helper."

In fact, Liang Shuanguan once opened a small restaurant in Bao Dao, and he knew a little about frying, frying, cooking and frying. With his cleverness and tolerance, his craft is becoming more and more popular. One day, a beautifully dressed American lady walked into a restaurant and ordered a western-style "fried scallop". Liang Shuangguan can't cook foreign food, so he has to make do with Chinese food. I didn't expect your wife to be so happy after eating it, and even said, "This is the most exquisite meal she has eaten in the Lotus Garden for 25 years." Afterwards, she hugged Liang Shuangguan and kissed him hard on his bare forehead. An interpreter joked that Liang Shuanguan used to be one of the chefs at the state banquet in China. The lady believed it and even called it "an honor". Soon after, the news spread like wildfire, and a "million chef" Liang Shuangguan appeared in the town.

After the children got married one after another, Liang Shuanguan breathed a long sigh of relief. In order to carry forward the traditional art of the Chinese nation, he established the "China Dramatic Art Society" in central California. He got up early and ran around in the dark, and with his past popularity in the entertainment circle, he got a number of drama "costumes", including costumes, props and musical instruments. He was recommended as a director by everyone. His children fully support and cooperate with his career. There are six or seven children performing on the stage, and his wife is a backstage director and makeup artist. The family is really busy. The cast has also grown from a dozen to fifty or sixty people, including doctors, professors, engineers, managers and so on.

China Drama Club rehearses for 5 hours every week, and records the lyrics and music into tapes (CDs). In the process of performance, the best performance effect can be achieved by using the good cooperation of mouth shape and recording. Of course, there are music tapes (CDs), and the actors should sing together and speak English together. Generally speaking, China Drama Club produces a play every year. The first play was The New West Chamber, and the second year was The Legend of Dragon and Phoenix. Later, The Story of Xu Jiujing's Promotion was also selected as the drama of Haihua Literature Season in Northern California. Performances have been performed in San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago, Vancouver and other places, and also in the famous Las Vegas, which caused a sensation for a while. Later, after winning the "1998 Outstanding Performing Arts Award" awarded by Armstrong University in California, Liang Shuangguan became more busy, volunteering for the Overseas Chinese Committee, and was often invited to perform "stand-up crosstalk" at activities organized by overseas Chinese, which made the audience burst into prolonged applause. This year, Liang Shuangguan also came to Yongcheng to perform with other actors of the drama club, and was warmly welcomed and received by the leaders of government departments. On the night of performing with the amateur performance team in Haishu District, Ningbo Concert Hall was full of praise.

Learning English at a relaxed age (my road to immigration)

For overseas Chinese, learning the local language is the most basic level. However, I didn't know enough about 1982 when I immigrated to the United States. Now in the blink of an eye. I (people used to call me a clown) have immigrated to America for 25 years. A quarter of a century's immigration experience has made me fully aware of the importance of "language barrier".

Learn English at listening age.

Before I immigrated, I was the host of children's programs on Taiwan TV, which was very popular with parents and children. However, after immigrating to the United States, I couldn't continue my passionate career because I knew nothing about English. I have to work as a handyman in a Chinese restaurant, peeling onions and washing dishes all day, keeping company with vegetables and dishes. You don't need English listening, speaking, reading and writing to do these jobs. After a long time, I can't tell a, b, c and d.

When I retired from a Chinese restaurant, problems followed. Since there is nothing to do, I have to hang around all day and kill time in vain.

One day I read a report in a magazine about an immigrant from China who came to the United States to learn English. After studying English hard for 70 years, this companion finally achieved something, became a scholar and professor, and lived a full and rich life. As the saying goes, it is never too old to learn. Although I am getting old, I hope I can learn old things and live a meaningful life. So I made up my mind not only to start learning English, but also to learn English well!

I told my family this idea, and they all fully supported me, especially my daughter, who personally took me to the community-run school to register, pay fees and buy books.

In this way, from 65438 to 0994, I became a student in a community school and began my English study.

My first English teacher was Donna Macaulay. She was an amiable lady. When teachers and students met for the first time, she was very happy to learn that I was from China and asked me to translate her name into Chinese. "Donna" is the name of many convenience dessert coffee shops in America, so I had a brainwave and called her "doughnut" teacher. Unexpectedly, the Chinese name I gave her was very popular with teachers.

From this day on, I studied English with the doughnut teacher, starting with the most basic A, B, C and D, drawing letters, memorizing words, writing simple sentences and reading articles. The teacher taught me to be lively and active, and I studied hard and seriously. Until now, I still have the homework paper for drawing English letters for the first time, and I have been reluctant to throw it away.

Clarify the facts and enhance understanding.

Last summer and last winter, after learning English with doughnuts for one year, I could have a simple conversation with other students in English. Although sometimes I have to "tell others what to do" to express myself clearly, I am still very happy and I am studying harder.

There are more than 40 students in my class, all of whom are immigrants from all over the world. Every holiday, everyone brings the special food of their motherland to the classroom for a party, such as China fried rice, spring rolls, tacos, Indian curry sauce, and Italian macaroni. While tasting delicious food, everyone talked and laughed, which not only enhanced understanding, but also exercised oral English. Now that I think about it, it was really a happy time.

In the process of learning English at school, there is one thing that I remember vividly. That's a course. The "Donuts" teacher is talking about the primary school English lesson 1 1, telling a story. The teacher recited the text for us first, and I noticed a paragraph that said:

anoldwanismaking home . sheiscarryingabofcroceries . suddenlyamonkeytakeshegroceriesandruns。

Where did this happen in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong is a big city. There are about 700 monkeys living near Hong Kong.

This passage means that Hong Kong, as a big city, has a big problem, that is, 700 monkeys often run to the streets of Hong Kong to rob pedestrians of food.

When the doughnut teacher read this paragraph, the whole class was dumbfounded and shouted "MYGOD!" (Oh, my God)

Before immigrating to the United States, I often went to Hong Kong to make movies and was very familiar with Hong Kong. How can there be such a thing as "700 monkeys on the street" in Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui and Taiping Mountain? So, I raised my hand and said, "Teacher, Hong Kong is a metropolis with a population of more than 7 million, but as far as I know, there has never been a case where 700 monkeys rob pedestrians of food in the street."

Teachers and classmates looked at me with puzzled eyes, so I gave them a detailed introduction of what I saw and heard in Hong Kong, the bustling business and customs of Hong Kong. Finally, everyone thinks that in developed and civilized Hong Kong, monkeys will not rob pedestrians of food.

On that day, I was proud of my English for the first time, and I realized for the first time that learning English was not just to enrich my old age.

From my first day of learning English to now, 10 years have passed, and my "doughnut" teacher has retired. Although my teacher has retired, I think I will continue to learn English.

Editor's words

In his early years, the author of this article was a children's program host of Taiwan TV station, and the screen model was a "clown". "Clown", optimistic and positive, who brings joy to others, these qualities are also displayed between the lines of this article.

When immigrants first arrive overseas, their cultures are different, their languages are not fluent, and their living environment is full of hardships. The author began to learn English at the age of 65, and his courage and determination are particularly commendable.

13' s road to English learning is not easy for an old man. The process of learning is also a process of persistence. Find fun in persistence, create fun, strengthen faith in persistence, and eliminate misunderstandings. This positive attitude is worth learning.

"Uncle Liang" has enlivened American and western art circles.

Liang Shuangguan (nicknamed "Uncle Liang"), a famous American artist and director of China Drama Club, released a newly arranged "Pig Eight Rings Watching Belly Dance" during the Spring Festival of the Lunar New Year of the Pig. The sketch has been invited to perform in many activities of overseas Chinese communities in the United States and the West for many times and has been well received. Recently, he was invited to perform in Houston. The American China Drama Club will also visit Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou in April.

The picture shows Uncle Liang (middle) who is nearly eighty years old in the sketch.
