Shanxi University is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in China. It is a national "double-class" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Shanxi Provincial People's Government. There are 19 doctoral degree authorization points in first-level disciplines, 35 master degree authorization points in first-level disciplines, 25 master degree categories, 4 postdoctoral mobile stations 14, 6 doctoral and master degree points in second-level disciplines outside the catalogue, and 2 interdisciplinary doctoral and master degree points. Philosophy and physics were selected as national "double first-class" construction disciplines. Philosophy of science and technology and optics were selected as national key disciplines.

Full-time graduate students in our school are selected by recommending exemption from examination and general recruitment, while part-time graduate students are selected by general recruitment and individual examination. Full-time and part-time postgraduate entrance examinations implement the same policies and standards in accordance with the unified requirements of the state.

In 2023, our school arranged 93 academic majors and 46 professional degree majors for full-time postgraduate students. In the end, the enrollment plan of each major will be adjusted according to the enrollment plan officially issued by the Ministry of Education and the situation of reaching the line.
