Shenyang Institute of Physical Education is one of the earliest physical education institutions established in New China, formerly known as Northeast Institute of Physical Education. Founded in 1954, it was originally affiliated to the State Sports Commission (State Sports General Administration). 200 1 is jointly established by the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay, and sports departments and education departments as the mainstay. It is the only sports-oriented multi-disciplinary and multi-professional college of higher learning in Liaoning Province, which is jointly funded by the central and local governments.

As of 20 14, the campus covers an area of 1072 mu, with a building area of 29 1000 square meters, and an ice and snow sports center covering an area of 757 mu has been built. There are 8 secondary colleges, 3 teaching departments and 2 affiliated schools. Undergraduate major 17, spanning five disciplines: education, management, literature, science and art, with 698 graduate students and 7778 undergraduate students.
