Zhengzhou University is a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university, a world-class university construction university, and a "Ministry-province joint construction" university. The Party Committee of the school is an advanced grass-roots party organization in China, and the school was selected as the third batch of "National Model Universities for Party Building Work" by the Ministry of Education.

Medical education in Zhengzhou University originated from Sun Yat-sen University in Henan in 1928, and Henan Medical College was established independently in 1952, which opened the precedent of medical higher education in Henan. Zhengzhou University, founded in 1956, is the first comprehensive university established in New China. It was listed in the national "2 1 1 project" in 1996.

The school covers a total area of 6 100 mu, and its main campus is located at No.0/00, Science Avenue, Zhengzhou City. Its south campus is located at No.75 Zhengzhou University North Road, its north campus is located at No.97 Zhengzhou Wenhua Road, its east campus is located at No.40 Zhengzhou University North Road, and its west campus is located at No.0/57 Zhengzhou Science Avenue.

Luoyang Campus is located at No.6 Zhoushan Avenue, Luoyang City. The school enrolls students nationwide, with more than 47,000 full-time undergraduates, 24,000 graduate students and more than 2,700 international students from 103 countries.
