For this problem, I really think the salary of university teachers is not low. Let me tell you what I know.
About ten years ago, when I was a graduate student in a university, our school was a university in Beishangguang, the 985 University of Science and Engineering. It is said that the local consumption level is not low at all. I am an engineering major, and most teachers in our college are very rich. They live in a villa, drive a good car, and usually live a very rich life. They don't feel any pressure at all in their lives. Finally, the main reasons are as follows:
First, wage income itself is not low.
Although many teachers like to laugh at themselves as "teachers" and "those who engage in scientific research are not as good as those who sell tea and eggs", with the state's investment in higher education, the salaries of university teachers have increased several times. Generally, university teachers are managed by profession. Young teachers who have just entered the university, if they are only lecturers, may have relatively low salaries.
However, because teachers who teach in universities now generally have doctoral degrees, and many even have postdoctoral work experience, they can be evaluated as associate professors soon after entering universities, especially in the past one or two years, and their wages have basically reached the local middle income level. Especially in some local colleges and universities, the salary may be higher.
Second, the project funds are relatively high.
In fact, many university teachers basically don't live on wages. The main source of income is project funds, including horizontal and vertical projects. Take my graduate tutor as an example, the annual project funds are basically maintained at several million, and some excellent tutors in the same college may have higher funds, depending entirely on their personal abilities.
Generally speaking, as long as an associate professor is evaluated, as long as the university is good, some topics can be obtained, and the resources of senior professors will be more abundant, whether it is a country, a place or an enterprise. Now many young teachers will also "hold their thighs" first and join a group to do projects with some cattle tutors.
The project funds for science and engineering majors are the highest, while those for humanities and social sciences may be relatively small or even incomparable. See who you're competing with. It can only be said that the humanities and social sciences are short of funds, but they are still more than enough.
Third, many other hidden incomes.
As we all know, university teachers will have real evidence, especially those from some famous universities. As long as you have a certain reputation and strength, you will generally receive many invitations, such as project review, lectures, lectures, etc. I have seen some teachers' schedules in this area are very full before, and it is not cheap to look at this income alone.
So overall, the income of university teachers is definitely not low. To say that the income is low, at most, I have been a university teacher for several years, which is what everyone usually calls "green pepper". As long as you study hard, within a few years, your income and worth will skyrocket after you make achievements.
Therefore, university teachers are definitely a cost-effective profession, which is why so many people want to be university teachers. Of course, being a university teacher still needs to have certain scientific research ability. After all, there are too many high-level teachers among university teachers. It's hard to get ahead just by mixing, but you still have to have some real skills.
The above is purely a personal opinion. what do you think? Welcome to communicate.
