Jordan: My choice of studying abroad
When it comes to studying abroad, most people will take the United States, Britain and Canada as their first choice, and will never consider countries like Jordan. However, in September this year, Li Zian went to Jordan to attend high school with the help of the teacher of Xintong International, and became the first batch of China students to study in Jordan. Next, he will tell us about studying in Jordan and share his experience with you.

First of all, let me introduce my school? King's College of Jordan. In 2007, Eric Widmer, then president of Deerfield Academy, a top American high school, founded this pure American school in Jordan at the invitation of the King of Jordan as a preparatory high school for Jordanian royal children to study in the United States. The school is located in Madaba, a small town in Amman, the capital, and adopts closed and boarding management. Both the headmaster and the teacher live on campus, so that we can take good care of the students. You can always ask the teacher if you have any questions, or you can often go to the principal's house for activities. This is a real aristocratic school, and the Prince of Jordan is one year older than me. The classmate who played my wife in the drama performance before was the niece of the former prime minister; There are also many ambassadors' children studying here. In getting along, I deeply felt their cultivation and broadened my horizons.

In addition, the faculty of this school is very strong, and 80% of the teachers are from the United States, all of whom graduated from top universities in the world. For example, my tutor graduated from Harvard, my biology teacher used to be a professor at Harvard, and my drama teacher graduated from Columbia University, so we feel that studying at Harvard is simply enjoyment. To my surprise, the King of Jordan attaches great importance to education. He will visit students at school regularly, give us speeches, encourage us to ask questions, and even let us put forward our opinions to the government. The school will also invite excellent speakers from TED to give us a speech. For example, some time ago, the then commander-in-chief of the US military and commander-in-chief of the Afghan war introduced us to the whole process from the 9 1 1 incident to the subsequent Afghan war. Seeing so many high-level people giving speeches, I feel that my knowledge and quality have reached a higher level.

This year is the first time that King Jordan Middle School enrolled students in China. I was one of the first China students that Jordan met. They know little about China people and China culture, so it falls on my shoulders to help China people establish their image. At the same time, I will try my best to adapt to cultural differences. Because there are many religions here, including Islam, Christianity and those from India. They all have their own culture and customs, and I must learn and understand them. Now I am used to praying before lunch every day, in the form of Islam and Christianity respectively, but the question we often discuss afterwards is? What's your favorite music? 、? What's your favorite movie? 、? Are you tired today? Wait a minute. Although we have different cultures and religions, we all respect each other's beliefs and get along well. We will also use Arabic in our daily life, which is also one of our compulsory courses. We will also eat authentic Arab food and learn some Arab customs, so I can feel a very strong Arab culture.

Speaking of extracurricular activities, it's really colorful. The last week is mainly a warm-up activity for Christmas. There is an activity theme and different competitions every day. Before, I also participated in many activities. Like at the beginning of school? The Battle of Six Dormitories? I will represent the dormitory and perform a drama in front of the whole school; In the drama performance as part of the course, I work as a stage manager under the technical department. This is my first time working backstage. All the props used in the performance were made by ourselves. During the three-month rehearsal, the music and lighting were controlled by ourselves. I deeply understand the hardships of the staff behind the scenes, and they deserve our respect. In addition, I just passed the interview and will take part in a musical performance in the spring, this time with the leading role. Then there was a dance competition in February, and I signed up to perform. The school offers many meaningful activities, including organizing a trip to Harvard to attend a model United Nations conference and a self-help trip to Palestine. As long as you are willing to participate, these are opportunities to exercise and improve yourself.

There is also a speech experience that I want to share with you. It's a coincidence. On Teacher's Day on September 10, I prepared a gift for my teacher. The director found it very interesting after watching it. The next day, he asked me to give the students a brief introduction of this festival in China. At first, I was hesitant to do it, a little scared and timid, but after thinking about it, I decided to give it a try. In the evening, I carefully prepared a speech, asked my tutor to help me revise it, and recorded it for me to imitate. The director didn't expect me to be so attentive, so he asked me to give a speech and moved the podium where the king would give a speech. The speech was very effective and had a great response. As we all know, a student from China came and thought that China students had great courage. A freshman dared to speak in front of the whole school, and I became one? Celebrity? . After the parents' activities, my flute performance "Fishing boats sing late" is also very popular. Later, I received a letter from the director. He solemnly said: I feel very honored that you have chosen our school. You have raised our school society to a higher level? Thank you very much for writing this letter to me. It is really a great encouragement and honor for me. My experience from this incident is that people should dare to think, do and try. In this way, you will have unexpected gains!

Although there are many extracurricular activities, the learning atmosphere here is very strong, everyone pays great attention to their GPA, and their study is still relatively tense. Especially in the last week before the holiday, there are a lot of exams and homework, and activities are also going on at the same time. Therefore, it is very important to learn to balance study and extracurricular activities. In addition, the school is very strict with integrity management. You must sign a convention of good faith when you start school, and you are absolutely not allowed to copy any ideas of others. Moreover, it is not necessary to do security check when the king comes, but we must do security check in the exam and resolutely put an end to students cheating in the exam. Perhaps because of this, 80% of the graduates here will be admitted to Ivy League schools every year. I was skeptical when the teacher of Xintong International introduced this figure to me at first, but when I saw what the students here had experienced and their quality, I was sure it was true. Because my own friends have been admitted to Harvard, Oxford and Yale, the education and activities of the school really qualify us to go to an Ivy League school.

These three months seem like a dream to me, but I have really experienced a lot and benefited a lot. In my opinion, what I have experienced in these three months here is something I can't experience in the United States, because I have learned dual culture from my classmates, enjoyed American education and felt Arabic culture. I was hesitant to go to Jordan, but it turned out that I was really on the right track. I felt like I just? Did you win the lottery? ! Although Jordan's neighbors are Afghanistan and Palestine, I admit that Jordan is really not rich or even poor, but this school is really a very good school, and I think it is an honor to study here. Maybe Jordan can be a new choice for you to study abroad!
