School of Physical Education of Zhengzhou University is the only higher physical education institution in Henan Province, with a bachelor's degree and a deputy departmental level. The provincial sports bureau is in charge, and the business work is led by the provincial education department.

The School of Physical Education of Zhengzhou University, formerly known as Henan Institute of Physical Education, was founded in 1958 and closed on 1962 due to national economic difficulties. 1984, Henan Institute of Sports Technology; 1992 was merged into Zhengzhou University and renamed as Physical Education College of Zhengzhou University (with independent legal personality).

According to the information of official website in February, 2022, there are 13 research centers in the college, among which the Central Plains Wushu Culture Research Center is the Henan Intangible Cultural Heritage Research Base. Central Plains Wushu Culture Research Center, Henan Senior Sports Research Center, Henan Sports Industry Research Center, Henan National Sports Culture Research Center and Henan Sports Psychology Research Center.

On July 20 19, two projects in our college were approved by the National Social Science Fund in 20 19, including the general project 1 and the youth project 1, which were respectively "Arrangement and Research of Oracle Bone Inscriptions in Yin Ruins" hosted by Professor Lu Jinfeng and "Study on the Spatial Ability Advantage Characteristics and Selection System Construction of China Ice and Snow Athletes" hosted by Dr. Tian Feng.
