East China University of Political Science and Law, founded in 1952, is located in Shanghai. It is the first batch of political and legal institutions of higher learning jointly established by the central and local governments in New China, and it is a high-level local university in Shanghai.

It has been selected into the Supreme People's Court Free Trade Zone Judicial Research Base, national universities with typical graduates' employment experience, the first batch of excellent legal talents education and training bases of Ministry of Education, Shanghai excellent legal talents training base and excellent journalism and communication talents education and training base.

1In June, 952, with the approval of the East China Military Commission, the law departments, political departments and social departments of nine universities including St. John's University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Soochow University, Xiamen University, Hujiang University, Anhui University, Shanghai University and Aurora University merged, and East China University of Political Science and Law was established in the former site of St. John's University.

1958, the school was merged into Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences; 1963 was re-established and enrolled the following year, and 1972 was revoked; 1March, 979, with the approval of the State Council, the school resumed classes for the second time. In 2000, the school was placed under the management of Shanghai by the Ministry of Justice. In March 2007, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, the school was renamed East China University of Political Science and Law.

In August of 20 18, China Salary Network released the top 200 salary rankings of China University graduates on 20 18, and East China University of Political Science and Law ranked 29th with an average monthly salary of 8,364 yuan on 20 17.
