Department of Anthropology and Ethnology

Xiamen University has a fine tradition of structural anthropology. Its structural anthropology began with 195 1. From 65438 to 0984, Xiamen University established the Institute of Anthropology and the Department of Ethnology Anthropology on the basis of the Anthropology Museum, thus having a complete trinity discipline system (Anthropology Department, Institute and Museum). With the unremitting efforts of several generations of anthropologists, Xiamen University Anthropology has made great achievements in scientific research and teaching, discipline construction and international academic exchanges since its establishment, and has become an important base of anthropology in China, with great influence at home and abroad. Chinese Anthropology Society and China Baiyue National History Research Association are all here. Anthropology has also become a key discipline in Fujian Province. At present, there are two doctoral programs in anthropology and ethnology, in addition to the master programs in ethnology, anthropology and ethnic history in China. Postgraduates in cultural anthropology began to enroll students 1983, and undergraduates in structural anthropology began to enroll students 1986. /kloc-doctoral students in anthropology were recruited in the 1950s, and in 2004, doctoral students were recruited and trained according to the requirements of new discipline construction. The graduates meet the needs of society, and some become scholars or academic leaders at home and abroad. The Department of Anthropology has a team of structural anthropology teachers with exquisite professional skills and reasonable echelon. At present, there are more than 20 employees engaged in anthropology teaching and research, including 9 professors, 6 associate professors and 6 lecturers or teaching assistants. More than 90% teachers have doctorates and rich teaching experience. Since its establishment, it has undertaken dozens of provincial social science research topics. He published nearly 100 books and more than 1000 papers. Won the nomination award of National Book Award 1, the third prize of Guangming Daily for outstanding achievements in social sciences 1, the second prize of the first session of the State Education Commission for outstanding achievements in humanities and social sciences 1, 2 outstanding political theory works in East China, 3 second prizes for outstanding achievements in provincial social sciences, 7 third prizes and many outstanding achievement prizes.

Training requirements of anthropology undergraduate major: students of this major take four courses, namely, cultural anthropology, archaeological anthropology, linguistic anthropology and physical anthropology, as well as basic courses of related disciplines, emphasizing the systematization of knowledge transfer, the cultivation of socio-economic and cultural investigation methods and techniques, and the improvement of research skills and the ability to conduct applied research. At the same time, pay attention to broaden the professional caliber and increase interdisciplinary and practical courses to meet the requirements of national construction and social, economic and cultural development for talents.

Employment: This major trains professionals who master the basic theories and methods of anthropology, develop morally, intellectually and physically in an all-round way, and have modern scientific ideas and excellent humanistic qualities. After graduation, students can be competent in ethnic, religious, natural history, culture, civil affairs, tourism, propaganda, policy research and other work, as well as administrative, secretarial and various management work of party and government organs, social organizations, enterprises and institutions, social organizations and private institutions.
