From 65438 to 0897, Qiushi Academy (the predecessor of Zhejiang University) was established in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in the 23rd year of Guangxu reign. It is one of the earliest new institutions of higher learning in China's modern history, following the western academic system.

Medical College of Zhejiang University established Zhejiang Medical College, and 1960 was renamed as Zhejiang Medical University.
