1980 Introduction to the Olympic Games
The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan and trampled on the norms of international law, which had a serious impact on the Olympic Games. On the one hand, a country holds the Olympic Games with peace and friendship as its main purpose, but on the other hand, it sends troops to invade other countries, which is bound to be opposed by the world and condemned by public opinion. Multi-national Olympic committees have expressed their views and refused to participate. The Chinese Olympic Committee also issued a statement not to participate in the Moscow Olympic Games.
