Founded in June 2002, Shanghai Jiaotong University Law School is an important part of building a world-class university and one of the key points of "selective pursuit of Excellence" in the liberal arts of Jiaotong University. Adhering to the talent training concept of Shanghai, metropolis, internationalization and commonweal, the College has made every effort to promote the construction of a legal research and legal talent training base that is at the forefront of domestic law schools (departments) and has great influence in the world. On July 3rd, 2007, KLOC-0, the Liao Kaiyuan Foundation of the United States generously donated US$ 30 million to the Law School, which was used to build a new law building in Xuhui Campus of Jiaotong University, recruit famous law teachers, shape academic brands and train politicians and academic elites.

Liao Kaiyuan Law Building was built on the second floor of the original teaching in Xuhui Campus of Jiaotong University, with a total construction area of 9,300 square meters. It is a comprehensive building integrating office, teaching and scientific research. The functional layout of the building is a composite whole. According to the openness of function, the building volume is divided into two parts: the basement, the library on the first floor and the public space at the entrance are supported by tree columns; The teaching area composed of classrooms and offices on the second and fourth floors constitutes a large volume. The plane layout structure divides the building into east, middle and west sections through two transportation service cores, so as to facilitate the combination of different functional spaces on each floor. The concept of "tree" runs through the whole architectural space and facade design, trying to provide people with an experience of living and studying on a big tree.

The architectural design of the building embodies the characteristics of law, the temperament of liberal arts and the first-class character. Its function and design embodies the characteristics of harmony between human environment and natural environment, modern architecture and historical architecture. After completion, it will become an important resource for our school to achieve the goal of building a first-class law school, and it will also become a landmark building for the liberal arts of Jiaotong University.
