How to explain in detail the mechanism of BiIA-SG in the University of Hong Kong?
HKU's research team pointed out that BiIA-SG can strategically ambush HIV and protect cells from infection by binding CD4 protein to the surface of host cells.

In addition, BiIA-SG with gene transfer can continue to exert its efficacy in mice and eliminate cells infected by HIV. Therefore, this study provides a proof of concept for BiIA-SG as a new antibody drug for HIV prevention and immunotherapy.

R&D history:

On April 26th, 20 18, the University of Hong Kong announced that its research team had developed a new antibody drug, which could protect cells from HIV infection and eliminate HIV, and successfully carried out experiments on mice.

The research team led by AIDS Research Institute, Department of Microbiology, School of Medicine, Hong Kong University has developed a new antibody drug "BiIA-SG" by using genetic engineering technology, which can effectively inhibit all tested HIV strains and promote the elimination of latent infected cells in mice.
