Beijing No.31 Middle School has a glorious patriotic tradition. During the May 4th Movement, students from Chongde established autonomous societies. The students took part in the vigorous May 4th Movement under the leadership of the Municipal Students' Union, despite the efforts made by acting principal E. Fang Zhi.

1925 After the May 30th massacre in Shanghai, the anti-British atmosphere in Chongde Middle School was particularly high. In order to express anti-English, most students dropped out of school or transferred to another school. When the school started in September, there were only less than 100 students left in a school with more than 200 students at that time.

1935 During the1February 9th movement, some students of Chongde walked out of the school gate to participate in the parade in the early morning of June 5438+February16th, regardless of the dissuasion of the principal Ling Xianyang. In a lecture held in Zhongshan Park, Yang Zhenning participated in the speech contest for middle school students on behalf of Chongde Middle School. The topic of the speech is "the responsibility of middle school students". Under the shock of1February 9, senior high school students, Sun Yiliang (Sun Daolin), Tao Shengchui, Xu, and others led students to start the national salvation movement. 1June, 936 to February, 65438,, Sun Daolin, Xu, (son of Zhu Ziqing), successively joined the China * * * Production Party and established the Party branch of Chongde Middle School. Under the cover of Yanda University, he moved the old base area of Chongde to Weixiu Garden in Haidian and founded Yanda Senior Middle School. In August of the same year, more than 50 students/kloc-0 were enrolled. School starts in September, and Ling Xianyang is the director of high school. 19411On February 8th, the Pacific War broke out between Japan and the United States, and yenching university and senior high schools were closed by Japan at the same time. 1945 In August, after War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression's victory, Chongde Middle School resumed classes in September of the same year under the sponsorship of Chongde alumni and teachers. Ling Xianyang is still the principal.

1in the spring of 947, the civil war launched by the Kuomintang intensified. In April, the Underground Party Learning Committee established the Democratic Youth League, a political organization of patriotic young students in Beiping. Soon, the NLD organization was established in Chongde Middle School, with Li Youbin, Zheng Jiadeng and Zhuang Shoujing as the first members. 1947165438+1At the beginning of October, the underground party branch of Chongde Middle School was formally established, with Li Youbin as secretary, Gu Angran as organization member and Jia Zheng as propaganda member. After the establishment of the underground party branch, students were led to actively participate in the patriotic and democratic movement, and the organization continued to grow and develop. When welcoming the liberation of Peiping, party member 17 students in the school and more than 40 members of the People's League. 1at the end of 948, the People's Liberation Army surrounded Beiping, and the Kuomintang army was losing ground. The school was once turned into a Kuomintang wounded soldier's shelter and could not attend classes. Ling Xianyang, egged on by someone in the church, dismissed all the faculty members in the school. At this time, the underground party branch of the school organized a team of teachers and students to patrol the school day and night, ushered in the liberation of Beiping, and successfully organized teachers and students to participate in the PLA's entry into the city.

1949 65438+1October 3 1 When the People's Liberation Army entered the city, the teachers and students of Chongde Middle School cheered excitedly for the liberation of Peiping in the five archways at the front door. School starts as scheduled in February 1949. The school board was reorganized, and the People's Educators Union was established among the teaching staff, so that the power of the school was in the hands of the people. 1950, Ling Xianyang resigned, and the school board decided to ask Rui-qi Li to be the principal.

The Party and the government appointed Comrade Bai Tao as Party branch secretary and vice president, and the school continued to develop under the direct leadership of the Party and the Municipal Education Bureau.

There are very few self-funded students in Chongde Middle School. About half of the students come from the children of the middle and small bourgeoisie and its upper bureaucrats; About one-fifth of the students are children of church clergy and believers. Children of clergy can be given priority in school without examination and are exempt from tuition and fees; Children of Christians must pass the exam, and if they are well-off, they can enjoy free or self-funded scholarships; Another 56% students are selected from rural missionary primary schools in Hebei Province. 19 13 to 1927. Chongde High School sets up enrollment points in parishes in Yongqing, Anguo, Hejian, xian county and Suning every summer, and parents can tell how much tuition they can pay when they register. The admitted students pay tuition fees ranging from 5 yuan to 20 yuan every year. After entering the school, I will be exempted from other tuition fees, enjoy the treatment of church scholarships, and go home for travel expenses in winter and summer vacations. Their academic performance is generally good. Self-funded students are not subject to any restrictions after graduation. Free and scholarship students can only apply for schools approved by the church-yenching university, Union Medical College, Beijing Taxation College, Shandong cheeloo university Medical College, Wuchang Wenhua University, Shanghai St. John's University or Nanjing Jinling Theological Seminary. Before liberation, almost all customs offices in China had Chongde graduates.

English teaching in schools is more prominent. Since the fifth grade of primary school, direct teaching has been adopted. Most of the teachers are English teachers. Textbooks are ordered directly from England or compiled by the British female teacher Rydland in our school. Textbooks printed by Ming Kai Bookstore written by Lin Yutang and others are also used in high schools. The advantage of this practice is that the pronunciation is accurate and conforms to the students' English level. Many graduates report that they can successfully engage in English-related work, and the foundation lies in our school.

Chinese teaching pays more attention to classical literature. At first, we hired some old pedants as much as possible, such as (second place), Wu Leichuan (Hanlin, later president of yenching university) and Wang (hachi). This also attracted some scholars in the late Qing Dynasty to send their children to school, such as Liang Siyong and Liang Sicheng, the sons of Liang Qichao, Chen Niandai, the son of Chen (the teacher of Puyi), and the son of the last scholar in the late Qing Dynasty.

Math lessons in primary and junior high schools are written by our school. Its outstanding feature is that it teaches plane geometry from the fifth grade of primary school and algebra from the first grade of junior high school. Self-made geometry textbooks start with geometry painting, which intuitively arouses students' perceptual knowledge and interest. General Algebra, an algebra textbook edited by British mathematicians Gao Fulai and Siddons, is characterized by introducing concepts from images and many intuitive illustrations. Since the third grade of middle school, students have been taught in English, and English training has been strengthened while learning mathematics.

The school attaches great importance to the teaching of Chinese, mathematics, especially English and other key courses. Strict management and supervision of students' study and self-study have promoted students to develop a good reading atmosphere.

Chongde Middle School loves sports. The school pays special attention to football, tennis and squash. There is a football field, three tennis courts and several squash courts. Chongde football team used to have a good reputation in this city. The school team often plays against the British soldier football team of the British Embassy in China. In addition, they often compete with Tongzhou Luhe Middle School and Beijing Academy and return home in triumph. Football has always been a traditional sport in Chongde Middle School. It has also trained many excellent football players. There were many football charity matches in the 1950s, which made modest contributions to the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. Football has become the most popular sports activity in the whole school.

196 1 year, Beijing No.31 Middle School was designated as the key middle school in Xicheng District by the Municipal Education Bureau, and the school has developed greatly since then.

After the Cultural Revolution, it was the first school in the city to officially resume classes. The school's teaching order was stable and the teaching quality was steadily improved, making it the only middle school in the city and even the whole country at that time. Beijing No.31 Middle School has trained more than 20,000 students since its establishment. Among them, there are many outstanding scientists and famous artists who are famous at home and abroad. 1933 In late summer and early autumn, Chongde Middle School welcomed a new batch of students, including Yang Zhenning, a later Nobel Prize winner in physics. Yang Zhenning was born in Hefei County, Anhui Province on August 1 1 of the lunar calendar. 1In the autumn of 929, Yang Zhenning's father, Yang Wuzhi, was hired as a professor of mathematics at the request of Tsinghua University. The whole family arrived in Beiping. In Chongde Middle School, Yang Zhenning received a formal secondary education. He is smart, studious and has a wide range of interests. Not only did he get excellent grades in math, science and chemistry, but he also read Mandarin and English well. From 65438 to 0938, Yang Zhenning was admitted to Southwest United University, the largest education center in China at that time, which was formed by the merger of Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University. The life of National Southwest Associated University provides opportunities for Yang Zhenning to learn and grow. 1In the summer of 945, Yang Zhenning went to the United States to study. 1957, Yang Zhenning and Li Zhengdao both won the Nobel Prize in Physics. 197 1 year, Professor Yang Zhenning, a Chinese-American scientist, visited New China for the first time and had a long talk with President Mao Zedong. During the visit, he visited his alma mater, Beijing No.31 Middle School, at telephone number 1994, 1998. Yang Zhenning made positive contributions to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, the study of China scholars in the United States, and the development of education and science and technology in China. His thoughts, words and deeds have gone far beyond what a physicist did, especially his ardent concern for the Chinese nation and lofty patriotism deeply touched us. When he visited China for the first time, he made a list of people he wanted to see. The first person on the list is his close friend, Deng Jiaxian, a classmate of Chongde Middle School.

Deng Jiaxian, 1924, was born on June 25th in Berlin Ban, Huaining County, Anhui Province. He and Yang Zhenning are fellow villagers. His father, Deng Yizhe, is a professor of philosophy at Peking University. He and Yang Zhenning's father, Yang Wuzhi, are old friends for many years. Deng Jiaxian and Yang Zhenning have had a deep friendship since childhood. 1936, Deng Jiaxian transferred from Zhicheng Middle School to Chongde Middle School to be a sophomore. Deng Jiaxian, who is in middle school, has improved his academic performance rapidly, partly because he grew up and began to understand; On the other hand, because he lives in such an environment where ethnic oppression is heavy, he feels that he must have knowledge and skills to save our country. This may be a vague consciousness in his mind at that time, but it exists after all. He changed from an ignorant urchin to an ambitious young man. 194 1 autumn, Deng Jiaxian was admitted to the Physics Department of National Southwest Associated University. 1In the autumn of 948, Deng Jiaxian was entrusted by his father and good friend Professor Yang Wuzhi to study in the United States with Yang Zhenping, Yang Zhenning's younger brother. 1950 On August 20th, Deng Jiaxian successfully passed the defense of Purdue University's doctoral thesis in physics. On the ninth day of receiving his doctorate, he resolutely embarked on a journey back to China. After returning to China, Deng Jiaxian worked in the Chinese Academy of Sciences for about eight years. 1in August, 958, Deng Jiaxian obeyed the organization mobilization and presided over the theoretical design of atomic bomb and hydrogen bomb. Deng Jiaxian is the pioneer and founder of China's theoretical research on nuclear weapons. He devoted his wisdom, personal happiness and even life to the national defense cause of our country for free. For 28 years, he has worked hard, tirelessly and tirelessly. After breaking through the principle of atomic bomb and hydrogen bomb, it was successfully developed for China and further weaponized; Subsequently, a new type of enhanced hydrogen bomb was successfully developed, a major theoretical breakthrough was made, and the second generation of new nuclear weapons was successfully tested. He has won the national special prize for scientific and technological progress for four times. China's national prestige has been greatly improved, and the people of China are proud of it. He has made an extremely important and indelible contribution. He is called China's two bombs. 1On July 29th, 986, Deng Jiaxian, who was seriously injured by radiation and suffered from rectal cancer, finally died of systemic hemorrhage. His last words were: die without regret.

For three consecutive years, he used the method of receiving electromagnetic (wave) radiation before the earthquake to monitor the earthquake, received the information before the earthquake many times, and visually judged the general direction. This achievement was written as a paper and published in the first issue of 1986 Journal of Seismology. At the national conference on electromagnetic waves before earthquakes, his views were adopted by the conference. He also introduced computer technology and designed an intelligent recorder to receive electromagnetic radiation before the earthquake. 1990 10 the national patent office passed this patent application. Mao Pusen's name was selected in the Dictionary of Modern Inventors in China published in May 1992. Beijing No.31 Middle School, which has a glorious history, is full of vitality in today's educational reform.
