1952, in the adjustment of departments implemented in People's Republic of China (PRC), the former Nanjing University merged with relevant departments of Jinling University and Jiaotong University to become new universities such as Nanjing University (Gulou, the former site of Jinling University), Nanjing Institute of Technology (Siping Building, the former site of National Central University, now Southeast University), Nanjing Agricultural College (now Nanjing Agricultural University) and Nanjing Normal University (now Nanjing Normal University).

"National Central University" was the highest institution of learning in China during the Republic of China, and it was also the largest and most comprehensive university in the "National University of the Republic of China". The modern history of "National Central University" began at 1902 Sanjiang Normal School. 192 1 year, initiated by Mr. Guo Bingwen, a famous educator in modern times, "National Southeast University" was formally established on the basis of Nanjing Normal School.
It became the only two comprehensive universities in China at that time. In May, 1928 and 16 were renamed as National Central University by National Jiangsu University, and 1937 moved to Chongqing and Chengdu. It was called Chongqing Central University in history and moved back to Nanjing after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
