The school was founded in 1949, once under the Ministry of Higher Education of the State Council, and was transferred to Jilin Province in 1957. From August 65438 to August 0958, Yanbian University was divided into Yanbian University, Yanbian Medical College, Yanbian Agricultural College and Yanbian Institute of Technology.

1996 With the approval of the former State Education Commission, the former Yanbian University, Yanbian Medical College, Yanbian Agricultural College, Yanbian Normal College and Yanbian Branch of Jilin Art College merged to form a new Yanbian University. In September of the same year, Yanbian University of Science and Technology, a Chinese-foreign cooperative education institution, was merged into Yanbian University.

Construction achievements

As of March 20 15, the school has undertaken national "973" major projects 184, major projects of the Ministry of Science and Technology, major projects of the Ministry of Agriculture, national natural science foundation projects, social science foundation projects, provincial and ministerial projects 127, and 200 municipal projects in recent three years.

There are 33 international cooperation projects, among which the project group "Breeding of New Varieties of Transgenic Pigs with Foot-and-Mouth Disease Resistance" successfully cloned the first red fluorescent transgenic Wuzhishan miniature pig in China in June 201February, which made the research in this field reach the international advanced level.
