According to the evaluation results of the academic degree office of the Ministry of Education in 2009, the best universities in biology major are Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Wuhan University, China Agricultural University, Zhejiang University, Peking Union Medical College, Tsinghua University Medical College, Nanjing University, Xiamen University, Nankai University, University of Science and Technology of China, Huazhong Agricultural University, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shandong University, Sichuan University, Lanzhou University and Northeast Forestry University.

Peking University ranks first in biology in China, and its leading edge has been greatly expanded after the merger of Beijing Medical University (now Peking University Medical Science Department). Peking University College of Life Sciences has five national key disciplines (botany, zoology, physiology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology), two national key laboratories (protein State Key Laboratory of Engineering and Plant Genetic Engineering and State Key Laboratory of Biofilm and Membrane Bioengineering), with 39 professors and 24 associate professors.
