Jilin Agricultural University, located in Changchun, the capital of Jilin Province, is a provincial key university with high-level applied research characteristics in Jilin Province. The People's Government of Jilin Province cooperates with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs to build a university, and the "Jilin Research Institute of China Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy" jointly established by the People's Government of Jilin Province and China Academy of Engineering is the supporting unit for the construction of engineering universities in the central and western regions.

The school was formerly an agricultural cadre school founded by the Central Northeast Bureau 1948 in Heilongjiang Province. 1950 was upgraded to Heilongjiang Agricultural College, 1956 was upgraded to Bei 'an Agricultural College, and four-year undergraduate education began.
