Official website information of Xiangtan University shows that Xiangtan University is neither a 2 1 1 university nor a 985 university. It is a first-class university (Class A) jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and Hunan Province. Xiangtan University is located in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. The school was founded on 1958. On September 6th of the same year, Comrade Mao Zedong personally wrote the name of Xiangtan University. 1959 closed for some reason. 1974, the State Council was approved to resume school and was positioned as a comprehensive university of arts, science and engineering. 1978 the State Council was approved as a comprehensive national key university. 198 1 year, the school became the first batch of master's degree authorized units in China.
