ANU for short, founded in 1946, is the only university established by the Australian parliament, which is different from other public universities in Australia-they are all established by the state legislature. The school is founded for the purpose of research and only recruits graduate students. After the merger of University College of Canberra 1960, it began to recruit undergraduates.
