Over the past 40 years, the Institute has always adhered to the policy of "focusing on the current political and economic situation, giving consideration to history and culture", strengthened the research on the current political and economic situation of South Asian countries, and combined with the reality of China's social and economic development, so that the research work can serve the social and economic development of China. Our institute has undertaken and completed more than 20 scientific research projects of the National Social Science Fund and relevant government departments. At present, the Institute is conducting research on the major social science project "World Trade Organization and India's economic development" of the Ministry of Education. After long-term efforts, the institute has achieved fruitful research results. He has published Indian Economy, Experiences and Lessons from India's Economic Development, Contemporary Indian Finance, Research on Modern Indian Caste System, Research on India's Social and Economic Development since Independence, Research on China's Southwest Trade with India, Indian Prime Minister Nehru, Economic Reform and Democratization in South Asian Countries, Indian Rural Industrial Structure and Contemporary India and Nepal. South Asian scholars in China spoke highly of the research work of the South Asian Institute of Sichuan University, believing that the Institute is one of the two major South Asian research centers in China (loose South Asian studies in Beijing and concentrated South Asian studies in Sichuan University), and pointed out that the hope of South Asian studies in China lies in Sichuan University. The party and state leaders also fully affirmed the research results of the institute and made important instructions on the research reports submitted by the researchers of the institute. The Institute has advantages in economic development and military security research in South Asia, and is in the forefront of South Asia research in China. The research on the social and political development of South Asia also has considerable strength and occupies an important position in the field of South Asian studies in China. Ambassadors of the Indian Embassy in China always visit the College during their tenure.
