1929 Liu Xiang founded Chongqing university; 1935 was approved as a provincial university; During the Anti-Japanese War, it cooperated with the Central University that moved westward to run schools. 1942 was renamed as National Chongqing University, and became a national comprehensive university with six colleges of arts, science, engineering, business, law and medicine. 1960 became a national key university. After the reform and opening up, the school has vigorously developed humanities, economy and management, art, education and other disciplines. In 2000, the former Chongqing University, chongqing jianzhu university and Chongqing Institute of Architecture merged to form the new Chongqing University, making Chongqing University, which has always been famous for its advantages in electromechanical, energy, materials, information, biology and economic management, at a higher level in the country.

As of September 20 18, Chongqing University has 36 colleges and 96 undergraduate majors, covering disciplines such as science, engineering, economics, management, law, literature, history, philosophy, teaching and art 10, with more than 47,000 students, including graduate students19,000. The campus covers an area of more than 5,200 mu, with four campuses, A, B, C and Huxi. The school building area is nearly 1.6 million square meters.
