Well-known universities with good computer majors include Tsinghua, Peking University, Beihang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

The Department of Computer Science and Technology of Tsinghua University was founded in 1958. After more than 50 years of unremitting efforts, it has developed into a computer department with strong comprehensive strength in teaching and scientific research in the field of computer science in China. During the period of 1996, in the national evaluation of computer science sponsored by the State Council Academic Degree Office, the Department of Computer Science ranked first, and it was the first batch in China to obtain the qualification to recruit and train graduate students according to the first-class discipline.

From 65438 to 0958, Beihang University established the "Teaching and Research Department of Computing Devices", which was one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in China to set up computer specialty. Computer software was established in 1975, and computer science and engineering department of Beihang University was formally established in 1978. In September 2002, the Computer College was established with the approval of the school.

The computer major of Harbin Institute of Technology was founded in 1956, which is one of the earliest computer majors in China. 1985 developed into the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and established the Institute of Computer Science and Technology. In 2000, the College of Computer Science and Technology was established.
