C9 (Nine Schools Alliance) is the first university alliance among top universities in China, which was launched in June 2009. The members of the alliance include 9 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Nanjing University, Zhejiang University, China University of Science and Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology and Xi Jiaotong University.
C9 aims to strengthen cooperation and exchanges in the fields of personnel training and scientific research, with complementary advantages. It is internationally known as China Ivy League School. After the alliance was established, many activities such as student exchange, seminars and summer camps were carried out.
The reasons why Wuhan University did not enter the c9 Alliance are as follows:
First, historical reasons. At first, C9 Alliance University was selected from the first batch of 985 engineering universities in China, and the nine universities selected from C9 Alliance University were the first batch of 985 engineering universities in China, but Wuhan University was not the first batch. In China, he was approved to enter the "985 Project" University, and only entered the 985 Project University in 2000.
Second, its own shortcomings. At that time, the overall strength of Wu Da was really not the highest level; First, Tsinghua should not talk too much, but be steady; It's similar to Fudan University and Jiaotong University. At that time, China University of Science and Technology was the best science and engineering university in China. Very stable. At that time, the strength of Wu Da was absolutely incomparable. There is no comparability now, and the fundamental reason is insufficient financial support.
Third, other reasons. It is reported that Wuhan University will focus on supporting the development of national 10 key universities and promoting the merger of some universities this year. Wuhan University is merged. At that time, Hubei planned to merge Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology for key state support. Under the influence of "Chen Lihong Incident", the final merger was not completed as scheduled. Later, Wuhan University merged to a certain extent, but eventually missed the establishment of the C9 Alliance, which made Wuhan University finally miss the C9 Alliance.
