Cai Ruixian specializes in energy utilization and engineering thermophysics. When analyzing the complex total energy system, Cai Ruixian founded the comparison method, thus summarizing various concise qualitative laws of various total energy systems; The theoretical system of thermodynamic analysis focusing on correct evaluation criteria is established, and a series of new reasonable standards and systematic analysis are put forward. In the theory of turbomachinery, the central streamline method has been fully developed, and some of its contents have been included in textbooks at home and abroad; In the three-dimensional flow theory of turbomachinery, firstly, the constraint conditions of annular wall are derived and a series of three-dimensional standard analytical solutions are given. For the first time, the influence of inner shroud on the unstable performance of axial-flow compressor was found in the actual unit, which played an important role in the debugging of various types of units in China. A series of algebraic explicit analytical solutions of engineering thermophysics are derived, such as unsteady compressible flow with shock wave and nonlinear heat conduction.

Research direction and achievements: Long-term research in the fields of turbine machinery, gas turbine, thermal cycle and total energy system. In the aerothermodynamic of turbomachinery, the center streamline method of Professor Wu Zhonghua is fully developed, and the annular wall constraint condition is put forward in the three-dimensional flow theory of turbomachinery. In the thermal analysis of total energy system, the school of comparative method and evaluation standard was established, a series of brand-new conclusions were drawn, and the fallacies of some authoritative works were pointed out, which was publicly recognized by international authorities. Theoretically, several analytical solutions of different disciplines in engineering thermophysics are given. In the development of domestic gas turbine, the influence of the inner ring of axial compressor on its surge was discovered for the first time in the world, which played a great role in the debugging and anti-surge of this unit and several domestic compressors in the future. In addition, the rotor bending problem is solved and a new design and calculation method is proposed. He presided over the completion of the national climbing project 1 and the national 973 project 1, and published more than 400 papers in important journals at home and abroad.
