The school was founded in the early days of the founding of New China. Its predecessor was 1950, a training course for post and telecommunications personnel in Shaanxi and Gansu, and later it was xi 'an Post and Telecommunications School. Xi University of Posts and Telecommunications was established in 1959 with the approval of the State Council. It is the only national key university of posts and telecommunications in northwest China. It was renamed as Xi University of Posts and Telecommunications on 20 12.
The school has always been affiliated to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Information Industry, and was transferred to Shaanxi Province in 2000. Now it is jointly built by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It is a high-level university construction university in Shaanxi Province and a "first-class university and first-class discipline" construction university in Shaanxi Province.
The "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education has been implemented in colleges and universities. It is the first batch of colleges and universities in China to pilot the preparatory classes for the children of border guards, and the only one in northwest China to undertake the training tasks of Asia-Pacific Telecommunications Organization and ASEAN.
