Zhengzhou University, referred to as "Zheng Da", is located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Henan Provincial People's Government. It is a national "double-class" university and a "21/engineering" university. The school has been selected into the national "20 1 1 plan", "11plan", the national public postgraduate plan for building high-level universities and the education and training plan for outstanding engineers.

Zhengzhou University of Technology, founded in 1963, is a key university directly under the former Ministry of Chemical Industry. In July 2000, the former Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou University of Technology and Henan Medical University merged to form the new Zhengzhou University.

For various reasons, Shandong University failed to settle in Zhengzhou, but moved back to Jinan.
