The school was founded in 1952, and was originally the Guangxi branch of the Central University for Nationalities (now the Central University for Nationalities). 1953 was renamed Guangxi University for Nationalities, and 1958 was renamed Guangxi University for Nationalities in 2006.

Candidates who meet the requirements stipulated by the Ministry of Education and intend to apply for ethnic minority care policies must truthfully fill in their ethnic identity when registering online, and fill in the Policy on Ethnic Minority Care, with the category of "12 Directional Employment" and work in the ethnic autonomous areas announced by the State Council.
