The college, formerly known as Ankang College, was founded in 1958 and closed on 1963 due to national economic difficulties. In 2004, the former Ankang Education College and Shaanxi Ankang Agricultural School merged into Ankang Normal College, and was upgraded to an undergraduate college with the approval of the Ministry of Education in February 2006.
