The meanings of these three levels are interrelated and mutually explanatory: only "knowledgeable and determined" can "be wise and seek truth"; "Seeking truth from facts by virtue" is also a necessary prerequisite for "being knowledgeable and determined"; To achieve "erudition and loyalty" and "seeking truth from facts by virtue", we must innovate and be "surprising" on the basis of "keeping the right". "erudite and determined" comes from the Analects of Confucius Zhang Zi: "erudite and determined, inquisitive and thoughtful, and benevolence is among them." The meaning of this sentence is that "benevolence" lies in extensive study, being able to stick to one's ambition, asking questions seriously and keeping in touch with the current situation. "erudite and determined" embodies the basic spiritual outlook of contemporary college students and teachers, and is also the fundamental feature of university education. "Dedication" means sticking to one's ambition and setting up a lofty life ideal. "erudition" and "loyalty" are dialectical relations: only loyalty can "erudition"; "erudition" can strengthen one's ambition. As far as students are concerned, in order to learn basic scientific and cultural knowledge and skills extensively and learn how to be a man, they must be clear and firm in their own life ideals, integrate erudition into life ideals, and turn erudition into life practice in lofty ideals; For all faculty members, they should be "knowledgeable" while clarifying their ideals in life; Only with knowledge can we adapt to the requirements of the rapid development of modern society, teach and educate people and do our job well.
"Being good" embodies the basic moral pursuit and scientific spirit. "Mingde" comes from "University": "The way of university lies in Mingde, in Xinmin and in truth, goodness and beauty." The original intention of Xiu De University is to distinguish right from wrong, good from evil, and to cultivate an upright and noble personality. This is the regulation of personality cultivation for teachers and students. "Mingde" is the requirement of being a man and learning, and "seeking truth" is the pursuit of truth, science and the ultimate value of life, and it is the highest ideal of scholars for thousands of years. "Mingde" and "seeking truth" explain each other: only by cultivating noble personality can we truly pursue the truth of life and succeed under the guidance of science; "Seeking truth" and "Mingde" have their philosophical and ethical significance, and "Mingde" can be implemented and become more "true".
"Winning by surprise" is a higher requirement for teachers and students on the basis of "erudition and certainty", a deeper and higher regulation for modern university education concept, and a further sublimation of "erudition and certainty" and "seeking truth with morality". "Extraordinary integrity" is also the basic requirement and criterion of being a man. "Righteousness" is also to abide by convention, integrity and traditional spirit. Universities should not only teach and educate people, but also have the responsibility to inherit the blood of excellent national culture and the spirit of excellent national traditions. Therefore, "positive", that is, the "positive" of excellent national cultural traditions, is a manifestation of spiritual personality; "Defending power" means "defending" the spiritual tradition of excellent national culture.
"Amazing" means innovation, progress and development. Universities are not only places to impart knowledge, but also places to cultivate talents and create academic achievements. We should not only inherit the knowledge gained by predecessors, but also forge ahead and be brave in development, so as to achieve "surprise victory" and innovation. For Qingdao University, a newly-built comprehensive university, it is necessary to seek development on the basis of reform and construction.
"Positive" and "extraordinary" are dialectical and complementary. "Being positive" is the premise of "singularity" (innovation), and "singularity" is the promotion of "being positive"; On the basis of continuous innovation, we can better adhere to principles, carry forward traditions and inherit civilization, so that principles, traditions and civilization can be carried forward on a higher basis; If this "positivity" hinders the development of truth, truth will stagnate.
