Northwest University is a comprehensive national key university jointly established by Shaanxi Province and the Ministry of Education. It is a national "double-class" construction university and a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university. Selected as the basic capacity building project of universities in the central and western regions. It is the first batch of doctoral, master's and bachelor's degree awarding units in China and the oldest institution of higher learning in northwest China.

Northwest University originated from Shaanxi University Hall in 1902, and was called Northwest University in 19 12. 1937, the National xi 'an Temporary University was formed by the National Peiping University, Beiping Normal University, Beiyang Institute of Technology and National Peiping Research Institute, which moved westward to Shaanxi. 1938 was changed to National Northwest United University, and 1939 was changed to National Northwest University.
