Tongji University has a long history and an outstanding reputation. It is one of the earliest national universities in China and a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established with Shanghai. After 1 14 years of development, Tongji University has become a comprehensive, research-oriented and international university with distinctive features and great influence at home and abroad, and its comprehensive strength ranks among the top universities in China.

As of May, 20021,the school has 29 professional colleges and 9 affiliated hospitals. The four campuses cover an area of 3,960 mu, with a total construction area of 1.83 million square meters.
