The faculty of the College is strong, and there are currently 55 faculty members/kloc-0, including 2 academicians of China Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of China Academy of Engineering, 2 academicians of Eurasian Academy of Sciences, 47 professors (researchers), 36 associate professors (associate researchers), 22 lecturers, 6 postdoctoral researchers 13 experimental technicians13. In-service teachers include 16 national outstanding talents and many provincial and ministerial outstanding talents in science and technology teaching.

The college attaches great importance to personnel training and has been successfully selected into the "Excellent Engineer Training Program" of the Ministry of Education. Academician Luo Jia and distinguished professor insisted on teaching undergraduates for a long time. At present, the college has 1 national teaching team, 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center, 1 "985" innovation platform, 2 "973" project chief scientists, 1 national security "973" project chief scientists and 5 national excellent doctoral theses. The undergraduate courses "Remote Sensing Principles and Applications", "Photogrammetry" and "Digital Image Processing" have been successively rated as national excellent courses and national excellent resource enjoyment courses.

Academician Li Deren, the academic leader, still holds the highest score in the doctoral thesis of Stuttgart University. He pioneered the iterative method of selecting weights from posterior variance estimation to locate gross errors, which was called "Li Deren method" by the international surveying community; He put forward an extended reliability theory based on two multidimensional alternative assumptions of error discoverability and resolvability to deal with measurement errors, which scientifically "solved the unsolved problems in surveying for a century". Today, the whole world is using Li Deren's theory to correct its own aerial survey adjustment system.

Academician Zhang Zuxun, an academic leader, has achieved world-class research results in the automation of aerial (sky) mapping, and won a series of awards from countries and ministries such as the National Natural Science Award and the National Science and Technology Progress Award. He launched VirtuoZo, a digital photogrammetry system with independent intellectual property rights in Australia, which produced economic benefits exceeding 1 100 million yuan. At present, the Digital Photogrammetry Grid (DPGRid) system developed by Zhang Zuxun's scientific research team uses distributed computing to realize the automatic processing of massive aerial photogrammetry data. Compared with the traditional digital photogrammetry workstation, the production efficiency is increased by 8- 10 times. The system responded quickly in Wenchuan earthquake, successfully completed the data processing task, and provided timely and reliable surveying and mapping data for earthquake relief operations.

Academician Gong Jianya, an academic leader, is currently the dean of the School of Remote Sensing Information Engineering of Wuhan University. He has been engaged in the research on the theory, method, standard, software and application of geographic information system (GIS) and geometric remote sensing for a long time, and put forward the object-oriented data model and interoperability model in GIS, which led the development of object-oriented GIS and service-oriented GIS. The generalized geometric imaging model and accurate processing method of remote sensing are put forward, which greatly improves the geometric positioning accuracy of remote sensing images. Based on the self-created theory and model, the basic GIS software, network service platform and remote sensing ground processing system were independently developed, which met the major needs of the country.
